Background/purpose: There is inconsistent evidence regarding whether the botulinum toxin A (BTA) injection can relieve pain caused by bruxism. This study aimed to estimate the efficiency of BTA injection in relieving pain caused by bruxism at different follow-up periods. Materials and methods: Five electronic databases were searched from 2005 to 2022 using search terms related to botulinum toxin and bruxism. Only controlled clinical trials were included. Two investigators reviewed each article and discussed any disagreements until a consensus was reached. Pain outcomes as evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) were subjected to single-arm and Bayesian network meta-analyses. Pooling data were measured by a random-effects model. Results: Eleven studies with a total of 365 bruxism patients were included. According to the single-arm analyses of the pooled data, the reduction in bruxism-related pain after BTA injection measured 4.06 points (95% CI = 3.37 to 4.75) on the VAS, and the pain relief was significant in the first 6 months after treatment (P < 0.01). According to the Bayesian analysis, BTA also resulted in significantly greater pain relief than oral splinting (mean difference (MD), -1.5; 95% credible interval (CrI) = -2.7 to -0.19) or saline injection (MD, -3.3; 95% CrI = -6.2 to -0.32). Conclusion: BTA significantly relieves the pain of bruxism for 6 months after injection, and its therapeutic efficacy was higher than that of oral splinting. Nevertheless, further long-term follow-up randomized controlled trials comparing BTA with other management or drugs are warranted.

We present an alternative scheme to achieve nonreciprocal unconventional magnon blockade (NUMB) in a hybrid system formed by two microwave cavities and one yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere, where the pump and signal cavities interact nonlinearly with each other and the signal cavity is coupled to the YIG sphere. It is found that the nonlinear coupling occurs between the pump cavity and magnon modes due to the dispersive interactions among three bosonic modes. Meanwhile, the Kerr nonlinearity is present in the pump cavity. Based on these nonlinear effects, a nonreciprocal magnon blockade could be achieved with the help of the weak parametric driving of the pump cavity. The present work provides an alternative method to prepare single magnon resource, which may be helpful for quantum information processing.

The treatment of osteoporotic bone defect remains a big clinical challenge because osteoporosis (OP) is associated with oxidative stress and high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), a condition detrimental for bone formation. Anti-oxidative nanomaterials such as selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) have positive effect on osteogenesis owing to their pleiotropic pharmacological activity which can exert anti-oxidative stress functions to prevent bone loss and facilitate bone regeneration in OP. In the current study a strategy of one-pot method by introducing Poly (lactic acid-carbonate) (PDT) and ß-Tricalcium Phosphate (ß-TCP) with SeNPs, is developed to prepare an injectable, anti-collapse, shape-adaptive and adhesive bone graft substitute material (PDT-TCP-SE). The PDT-TCP-SE bone graft substitute exhibits sufficient adhesion in biological microenvironments and osteoinductive activity, angiogenic effect and anti-inflammatory as well as anti-oxidative effect in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, the PDT-TCP-SE can protect BMSCs from erastin-induced ferroptosis through the Sirt1/Nrf2/GPX4 antioxidant pathway, which, in together, demonstrated the bone graft substitute material as an emerging biomaterial with potential clinical application for the future treatment of osteoporotic bone defects. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Injectable, anti-collapse, adhesive, plastic and bioactive bone graft substitute was successfully synthesized. Incorporation of SeNPs with PDT into ß-TCP regenerated new bone in-situ by moderating oxidative stress in osteoporotic bone defects area. The PDT-TCP-SE bone graft substitute reduced high ROS levels in osteoporotic bone defect microenvironment. The bone graft substitute could also moderate oxidative stress and inhibit ferroptosis via Sirt1/Nrf2/GPX4 pathway in vitro. Moreover, the PDT-TCP-SE bone graft substitute could alleviate the inflammatory environment and promote bone regeneration in osteoporotic bone defect in vivo. This biomaterial has the advantages of simple synthesis, biocompatibility, anti-collapse, injectable, and regulation of oxidative stress level, which has potential application value in bone tissue engineering.

Severe burn wounds usually destroy key cells' functions of the skin resulting in delayed re-epithelization and wound regeneration. Promoting key cells' activities is crucial for burn wound repair. It is well known that keratinocyte growth factor-2 (KGF-2) participates in the proliferation and morphogenesis of epithelial cells while acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) is a key mediator for fibroblast and endothelial cell growth and differentiation. However, thick eschar and the harsh environment of a burn wound often decrease the delivery efficiency of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) to the wound site. Therefore, herein a novel microneedle patch for sequential transdermal delivery of KGF-2 and aFGF is fabricated to enhance burn wound therapy. aFGF is first loaded in the nanoparticle (NPaFGF) and then encapsulated NPaFGF with KGF-2 in the microneedle patch (KGF-2/NPaFGF@MN). The result shows that KGF-2/NPaFGF@MN can successfully get across the eschar and sequentially release KGF-2 and aFGF. Additional data demonstrated that KGF-2/NPaFGF@MN achieved a quicker wound closure rate with reduced necrotic tissues, faster re-epithelialization, enhanced collagen deposition, and increased neo-vascularization. Further evidence suggests that improved wound healing is regulated by significantly elevated expressions of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1ɑ) and heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) in burn wounds. All these data proved that KGF-2/NPaFGF@MN is an effective treatment for wound healing of burns.

The study of cultural artifact provenance, tracing ownership and preservation, holds significant importance in archaeology and art history. Modern technology has advanced this field, yet challenges persist, including recognizing evidence from diverse sources, integrating sociocultural context, and enhancing interactive automation for comprehensive provenance analysis. In collaboration with art historians, we examined the handscroll, a traditional Chinese painting form that provides a rich source of historical data and a unique opportunity to explore history through cultural artifacts. We present a three-tiered methodology encompassing artifact, contextual, and provenance levels, designed to create a "Biography" for handscroll. Our approach incorporates the application of image processing techniques and language models to extract, validate, and augment elements within handscroll using various cultural heritage databases. To facilitate efficient analysis of non-contiguous extracted elements, we have developed a distinctive layout. Additionally, we introduce ScrollTimes, a visual analysis system tailored to support the three-tiered analysis of handscroll, allowing art historians to interactively create biographies tailored to their interests. Validated through case studies and expert interviews, our approach offers a window into history, fostering a holistic understanding of handscroll provenance and historical significance.

In this study, [1+2+2] cyclization of tryptamine-derived isocyanides with 3-ylideneoxindoles was systematically investigated. A series of structurally complex spiro-oxindole derivatives were obtained. Characteristic dynamic covalent chemistry was observed and confirmed by experiments and density functional theory calculation. Through the regulation of the solvent, temperature, and time, the precise and stereodivergent synthesis of spiro-oxindoles was achieved.

Tuning electronic characteristics of metal-ligand bonds based on reaction pathways to achieve efficient catalytic processes has been widely studied and proven to be feasible in homogeneous catalysis, but it is scarcely investigated in heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we demonstrate the regulation of the electronic configuration of Ir-O bonds in an Ir single-atom catalyst according to the borane activation mechanism. Ir-O bonds in Ir1/Ni(OH)x are found to be more electron-poor than those in Ir1/NiOx. Despite the mild solvent-free conditions and ambient temperature, Ir1/Ni(OH)x exhibits outstanding performance for the hydroboration of alkenes, furnishing the desired alkylboronic esters with a turnover frequency value of ≤3060 h-1 and 99% anti-Markovnikov selectivity, which is significantly better than that of Ir1/NiOx (42 h-1). It is further proven that the more electron-poor Ir-O bonds as active centers are more oxidative and so benefit the activation of the H-B bond in the reductive pinacolborane.

Transparent wood (TW) has attracted much attention in the field of energy saving building structural materials because of its high light transmittance, good thermal insulation performance and good toughness. However, the polymeric resins used in the present study to impregnate lignin-based wood templates are usually derived from petroleum-based chemical resources, which pose a fatal threat to human beings both in terms of consuming large amounts of resources and causing environmental pollution problems. It is therefore important to develop alternatives to petroleum-derived chemicals in renewable natural resources. Here, we report a green and sustainable TW production process based on the bio-recycling concept. Lignin-based sustainable resin (LSR) was prepared from waste lignin produced during delignification by polymerization of guaiacol. At the same time, according to FT-IR and NMR data analysis combined with previous studies, the synthesis mechanism of LSR was proposed, and this result provided a reference for bio-based resins made from biomass materials. The prepared lignin-based sustainable transparent wood (LSTW) has good light transmittance and good dimensional stability. In addition, the LSTW also shows good thermal insulation and indoor temperature regulation capabilities compared with the common glass.

PURPOSE: The toughest challenge in pedestrian traffic accident identification lies in ascertaining injury manners. This study aimed to systematically simulate and parameterize 3 types of craniocerebral injury including impact injury, fall injury, and run-over injury, to compare the injury response outcomes of different injury manners. METHODS: Based on the Total Human Model for Safety (THUMS) and its enhanced human model THUMS-hollow structures, a total of 84 simulations with 3 injury manners, different loading directions, and loading velocities was conducted. Von Mises stress, intracranial pressure, maximum principal strain, cumulative strain damage measure, shear stress, and cranial strain were employed to analyze the injury response of all areas of the brain. To examine the association between injury conditions and injury consequences, correlation analysis, principal component analysis, linear regression, and stepwise linear regression were utilized. RESULTS: There is a significant correlation observed between each criterion of skull and brain injury (p < 0.01 in all Pearson correlation analysis results). A 2-phase increase of cranio-cerebral stress and strain as impact speed increases. In high-speed impact (> 40 km/h), the Von Mises stress on the skull was with a high possibility exceed the threshold for skull fracture (100 MPa). When falling and making temporal and occipital contact with the ground, the opposite side of the impacted area experiences higher frequency stress concentration than contact at other conditions. Run-over injuries tend to have a more comprehensive craniocerebral injury, with greater overall deformation due to more adequate kinetic energy conduction. The mean value of maximum principal strain of brain and Von Mises stress of cranium at run-over condition are 1.39 and 403.8 MPa, while they were 1.31, 94.11 MPa and 0.64, 120.5 MPa for the impact and fall conditions, respectively. The impact velocity also plays a significant role in craniocerebral injury in impact and fall loading conditions (the p of all F test < 0.05). A regression equation of the craniocerebral injury manners in pedestrian accidents was established. CONCLUSION: The study distinguished the craniocerebral injuries caused in different manners, elucidated the biomechanical mechanisms of craniocerebral injury, and provided a biomechanical foundation for the identification of craniocerebral injury in legal contexts.

Amid an era of rapid globalization and technological advancement, translation technologies stand as valuable assets for college students to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the translation process. However, the adoption and acceptance of these technologies are contingent on several psychological factors, which are underexplored in the academic field. This study, populated by a cohort of 397 college students, employs a multiple-item questionnaire measuring computer self-efficacy, learning motivation, cognitive engagement, and the behavioral intention to utilize translation technologies. The collected data were analyzed through a Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. Results indicated that computer self-efficacy significantly correlated with learning motivation, cognitive engagement, and behavioral intention to use translation technologies. Learning motivation and cognitive engagement were identified as critical mediators; combined, they exhibited a chain mediating effect on the association between computer self-efficacy and the intention to adopt translation technologies. Untangling the intertwined influences of these psychological constructs provides profound implications for the stakeholders, including tertiary education institutions, educators, curriculum developers, and technologists, to design effective pedagogical strategies and technology platforms to enhance translation technology adoption. This will equip students to harness these technologies and create a conducive environment for them to thrive in a globalized and digitally interconnected world.

CD7-targeted chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has shown promising initial complete remission (CR) rates in patients with refractory or relapsed (r/r) T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-ALL/LBL). To enhance the remission duration, consolidation with allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is considered. Our study delved into the outcomes of 34 patients with r/r T-ALL/LBL who underwent allo-HSCT after achieving CR with autologous CD7 CAR-T therapy. These were compared with 124 consecutive T-ALL/LBL patients who received allo-HSCT in CR following chemotherapy. The study revealed that both the CAR-T and chemotherapy cohorts exhibited comparable 2-year overall survival (OS) (61.9% [95% CI, 44.1-78.1] vs. 67.6% [95% CI, 57.5-76.9], p = 0.210), leukaemia-free survival (LFS) (62.3% [95% CI, 44.6-78.4] vs. 62.0% [95% CI, 51.8-71.7], p = 0.548), non-relapse mortality (NRM) rates (32.0% [95% CI, 19.0-54.0] vs. 25.3% [95% CI, 17.9-35.8], p = 0.288) and relapse incidence rates (8.8% [95% CI, 3.0-26.0] vs. 15.8% [95% CI, 9.8-25.2], p = 0.557). Patients aged ≤14 in the CD7 CAR-T group achieved high 2-year OS and LFS rates of 87.5%. Our study indicates that CD7 CAR-T therapy followed by allo-HSCT is not only effective and safe for r/r T-ALL/LBL patients but also on par with the outcomes of those achieving CR through chemotherapy, without increasing NRM.

Sphingolipids serve as essential components of biomembrane and possess significant bioactive properties. Sphingosine-1-phophate (S1P) plays a key role in plant resistance to stress, but its specific impact on plant growth and development remains to be fully elucidated. Cotton fiber cells are an ideal material for investigating the growth and maturation of plant cells. In this study, we examined the content and composition of sphingosine (Sph) and S1P throughout the progression of fiber cell development. The content of S1P elevated gradually during fiber elongation but declined during the transition stage. Exogenous application of S1P promoted fiber elongation while using of FTY720 (an antagonist of S1P), and DMS (an inhibitor of LCBK) hindered fiber elongation. Cotton Long Chain Base Kinase 1 (GhLCBK1) was notably expressed during the fiber elongation stage, containing all conserved domains of LCBK protein and localized in the endoplasmic reticulum. Overexpression GhLCBK1 increased the S1P content and promoted fiber elongation while retarded secondary cell wall (SCW) deposition. Conversely, downregulation of GhLCBK1 reduced the S1P levels, and suppressed fiber elongation, and accelerated SCW deposition. Transcriptome analysis revealed that upregulating GhLCBK1 or applying S1P induced the expression of GhEXPANSIN and auxin related genes. Furthermore, the levels of IAA were elevated and reduced in the fibers when up-regulating or down-regulating GhLCBK1, respectively. Our investigation demonstrated that GhLCBK1 and its product S1P facilitated the elongation of fiber cells by affecting auxin biosynthesis. This study contributes novel insights into the intricate regulatory pathways involved in fiber cell elongation, identifying GhLCBK1 as a potential target gene and laying the groundwork for enhancing fiber quality via genetic manipulation.

Although covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with high π-conjugation have recently exhibited great prospects in perovskite solar cells (PSCs), their further application in PSCs is still hindered by face-to-face stacking and aggregation issues. Herein, metal-organic framework (MOF-808) is selected as an ideal platform for the in situ homogeneous growth of a COF to construct a core-shell MOF@COF nanoparticle, which could effectively inhibit COF stacking and aggregation. The synergistic intrinsic mechanisms induced by the MOF@COF nanoparticles for reinforcing intrinsic stability and mitigating lead leakage in PSCs have been explored. The complementary utilization of π-conjugated skeletons and nanopores could optimize the crystallization of large-grained perovskite films and eliminate defects. The resulting PSCs achieve an impressive power conversion efficiency of 23.61% with superior open circuit voltage (1.20 V) and maintained approximately 90% of the original power conversion efficiency after 2000 h (30-50% RH and 25-30 °C). Benefiting from the synergistic effects of the in situ chemical fixation and adsorption abilities of the MOF@COF nanoparticles, the amount of lead leakage from unpackaged PSCs soaked in water (< 5 ppm) satisfies the laboratory assessment required for the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Regulation.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is an important cause of heart failure and arrhythmias, including sudden death, with a major impact on the healthcare system. Genetic causes and different phenotypes are now increasingly being identified for this condition. In addition, specific medications, such as myosin inhibitors, have been recently shown as potentially able to modify its symptoms, hemodynamic abnormalities and clinical course. Our article aims to provide a comprehensive outline of the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the current era.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To quantify intratumor heterogeneity (ITH) in clinical T1 stage lung adenocarcinoma presenting as pure ground-glass nodules (pGGN) on computed tomography, assessing its value in distinguishing histological subtypes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An ITH score was developed for quantitative measurement by integrating local radiomics features and global pixel distribution patterns. Diagnostic efficacy in distinguishing histological subtypes was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and area under the curve (AUC) values. The ITH score's performance was compared to those of conventional radiomics (C-radiomics), and radiological assessments conducted by experienced radiologists. RESULTS: The ITH score demonstrated excellent performance in distinguishing lepidic-predominant adenocarcinoma (LPA) from other histological subtypes of clinical T1 stage lung adenocarcinoma presenting as pGGN. It outperformed both C-radiomics and radiological findings, exhibiting higher AUCs of 0.784 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.742-0.826) and 0.801 (95% CI: 0.739-0.863) in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. The AUCs of C-radiomics were 0.764 (95% CI: 0.718-0.810, DeLong test, p = 0.025) and 0.760 (95% CI: 0.692-0.829, p = 0.023) and those of radiological findings were 0.722 (95% CI: 0.673-0.771, p = 0.003) and 0.754 (95% CI: 0.684-0.823, p = 0.016) in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. Subgroup analysis revealed varying diagnostic efficacy across clinical T1 stages, with the highest efficacy in the T1a stage, followed by the T1b stage, and lowest in the T1c stage. CONCLUSION: The ITH score presents a superior method for evaluating histological subtypes and distinguishing LPA from other subtypes in clinical T1 stage lung adenocarcinoma presenting as pGGN.

BACKGROUND: Rice vinegar is a worldwide popular cereal vinegar worldwide and is typically produced in an open environment, and the ecosystem of solid-state fermentation is complicated and robust. This study aimed to reveal the shaping force of the establishment of the ecosystem of Beijing rice vinegar, the core function microbiota, and their correlation with critical environmental factors. RESULTS: The experimental findings revealed the changes in environmental factors, major metabolites, and microbial patterns during Beijing rice vinegar fermentation were obtained. The major metabolites accumulated at the middle and late acetic acid fermentation (AAF) periods. Principal coordinates and t-test analyses revealed the specific bacterial and fungal species at corresponding stages. Kosakonia, Methlobacterium, Sphingomonas, unidentified Rhizobiaceae, Pseudozyma and Saccharomycopsis dorminated during saccharification and alcohol fermentation and early AAF, while Lactococcus, Acetobacter, Rhodotorula, and Kazachstania dominated the later AAF stages. Canonical correspondence analysis of environmental factors with core microbiota. Temperature and total acid were the most significant factors correlated with the SAF bacterial profile (Pediococcus, Weissella, Enterococcus, and Kosakonia). Ethanol was the most significant factor between AAF1 and AAF3, and mainly affected Acetobacter and Lactobacillus. Conversely, ethanol was the most significant factor in the SAF, AAF1, and AAF3 fungi communities; typical microorganisms were Saccharomyces and Malassezia. Furthermore, the predicted phenotypes of bacteria and their response to environmental factors were evaluated. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, this study provided insights into the process regulation of spontaneous fermentation and distinguished the key driving forces in the microbiota of Beijing rice vinegar fermentation. Edwardsiella piscicida, a significant intracellular pathogen, is widely distributed in aquatic environments and causes systemic infection in various species. Therefore, it's essential to develop a rapid, uncomplicated and sensitive method for detection of E. piscicida in order to control the transmission of this pathogen effectively. The recombinase-aided amplification (RAA) assay is a newly developed, rapid detection method that has been utilized for various pathogens. In the present study, a real-time RAA (RT-RAA) assay, targeting the conserved positions of the EvpP gene, was successfully established for the detection of E. piscicida. This assay can be performed in a one-step single tube reaction at a temperature of 39°C within 20 min. The RT-RAA assay exhibited a sensitivity of 42 copies per reaction at a 95% probability, which was comparable to the sensitivity of real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) assay. The specificity assay confirmed that the RT-RAA assay specifically targeted E. piscicida without any cross-reactivity with other important marine bacterial pathogens. Moreover, when clinical specimens were utilized, a perfect agreement of 100% was achieved between the RT-RAA and qPCR assays, resulting a kappa value of 1. These findings indicated that the established RT-RAA assay provided a viable alternative for the rapid, sensitive, and specific detection of E. piscicida.
